What you need to know before selecting a roofing contractor.
  • The right roofer may not mean the cheapest bid.  Just because a roofer gives you a killer quote, it doesn't always mean you should hire them.  There are many unscrupulous roofers out there that cut corners and take short-cuts in order to keep prices down. Make sure you enlist the services of a reputable roofing company who delivers a quality product at a fair price.

  • Use a local roofing company. There are a lot of reasons to hire local. This is especially true after a bad storm when the swarms of "roofing companies" swoop in from literally hundreds of miles away to work the damage. But they are here today and gone tomorrow.  A solid, local company with a good reputation will give you quality service and will be there for you if a problem arises.

  • A good roofing company has good relationships with its suppliers and venders. Good relationships with its partner venders and suppliers means there is a good track record and longevity built on trust and reciprocation.

  • A reputable roofing company will be knowledgeable about and follow city ordinances. Permits cost money and can be a good indication of whether or not a company is in it to just make a fast buck.

  • Has the possibility of bad wood been addressed before the project is started? In most cases an experienced roofer will be able to foresee the possibility of bad/rotten decking and explain the implications and so minimize any surprises.

  • What's the workmanship warranty? Find out what kind of warranty the roofing company offers.  Steer clear of those who don't offer a healthy warranty or worse yet, don't offer any.

  • Good communication - accessible and responsive. Any good roofing company will provide various forms of contact information. But more than this, they will be responsive and follow up within 24 hour minimally.

  • Quality products and workmanship. Make sure the roofer you select uses high quality products for your roof.  You roof is one of the most important parts of your home a good roofer will use high quality materials.

  • Experience. Roofing companies come and go.  Make sure the company you hire had the experience, integrity and commitment to be around for the long haul.
